In person in Calgary and virtual across Alberta and New Brunswick
Trauma-informed therapy for adults and teens experiencing PTSD, complex trauma, sexual trauma, and relational trauma. In-person in Calgary, virtual across Alberta and New Brunswick
Trauma does not always come from one identifiable event. It can develop through repeated, prolonged, or relational experiences. Sometimes the effects are obvious, other times it just feels like certain situations bring up reactions that are hard to make sense of
-
feeling constantly on edge
-
shutting down or numbing during conflict
-
difficulty trusting or feeling safe with others
-
dissociation or disconnection from yourself
-
intrusive memories or strong physical reactions
PTSD, Complex Trauma & Relational Trauma
Some traumatic experiences are tied to a specific event. Others occur repeatedly, especially in important relationships. I work with individuals experiencing PTSD, as well as complex, childhood, attachment, and relational trauma. These experiences can influence emotional regulation, relationships, and sense of self. Therapy can help you better understand these patterns, while gradually building greater capacity to stay present with difficult experiences at a manageable pace.
Sexual Trauma and Sexual Violence
Experiences of sexual violence can have lasting impacts on safety, trust, boundaries, relationships, self-perception, and connection with the body. My background includes several years supporting survivors within the sexual violence sector. Therapy is collaborative and paced around your needs. You don't need to share every detail for therapy to be helpful.
The Mind-Body Connection
Trauma isn't always something we think about. It can show up in how our bodies respond to stress. You might notice reactions that don't quite match what's happening in the moment, such as shutting down, going numb, or feeling on edge. Approaches I integrate include: EMDR therapy, which can help process distressing memories, somatic approaches that pay attention to sensations and body responses, nervous system-focused work to build awareness of patterns of activation and shutdown, and talk therapy, including modalities such as ACT to help make sense of your experiences and support day-to-day functioning. The approach is individualized rather than a set formula.
What Trauma Therapy Can Look Like
Trauma therapy doesn’t always mean talking about painful experiences in detail. We may begin by building an understanding of how your nervous system responds to stress, noticing patterns and triggers, and developing ways to feel more grounded and regulated. From there, we can gently work with past experiences at a pace that feels manageable, using approaches such as EMDR, somatic-based therapies, and talk therapy.
